Grab an autographed, short run edition of Satori ! Mint green cassette shell.
After making 'Never Late than Better' during the pandemic, this was a full year in the making between long drives out to Thom Flowers (dude has produced the Ataris!) in Santa Barbara from Long Beach, getting lost (twice), piano shows, moving to the Northeast, and general dislocation and questioning-of-one's-life-choices.
It took almost 2 years from my first album, but after both in-studio and home recording plus some talented mixing and mastering help, proud of the 6 songs here.
The first track is a Wes-legacy song.
I wrote it when I was about 19, and it went through several lyrical changes thereafter. It was called 'Shakespeare' for some reason; I could never find a title I liked. I stole a minor line from a Julian Lennon song about 'watching the shadows on my wall' and related it to the sense of the shadow that time casts over all of us; a shadow we learn to live with, even as we grow weary of it's sly presence.

There's TMI, I am signing and sending one your way. High quality premium Ferric tape on a new Tascam unit via Mobineko. Lifetime of growing up making my own recordings on cassette, this is a real come-full-circle moment for me. Thanks for being here.

about

Finished at my 1st apartment in Long Beach, about a year into the Trump era - it's a song which has felt vaguely like foreshadowing the world we were about to enter, floating in mistrust and disinformation.

lyrics

I woke up once in a hurricane
Looked out the window at the pouring rain
Flipped on TV and watched the news...
Saw a disaster then I tried YouTube

I found myself in a photograph
Punch-drunk and blinking red eye in the flash
I found myself in someone else's first draft

Well every day I'm growing more aware
I'd volunteer if they would pay to care
Walk past the dealers on the boulevard
Forget the suicide let's play some darts

I found myself in New Orleans
Texted for sex inside a limousine
I found myself in someone else, not me

I'll tell you one thing at least I'm gonna laugh.
I'll tell you one thing, glass half full is still - half.

I got a job selling motorsports
It pays for shit, but they let me wear shorts
On Saturdays I hit up the mall
And buy band posters to put on my wall

I found myself in another's arms
I didn't recognize, but oh - the charms
I found myself in biology's alarm

Easy for you to criticize
and maybe you don't realize
how easy to accessorize...

I know one day I'm gonna die
But they have pills for that, so I won't cry
I try to read but I lose the urge
Go back to graphics for endorphin surge

I found myself in a book with no name
I saw the movie but it wasn't the same
I found myself in someone else's dumb game
